South Yorkshire Police is supporting Sheffield's event to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia
A ‘one minute noise’ to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) will take place in Sheffield’s Peace Gardens at 6pm on Thursday, 17 May, to raise awareness of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people across the world.
Witness appeal after bag snatch in Woodseats
Police are appealing for witnesses after an 84-year-old woman had her bag snatched in Woodseats last week.
The robbery happened around 3pm on Wednesday, 9 May, when the local woman was standing at a bus stop on Chesterfield Road near to Blockbuster video.
Inspector Ian Stubbs said: “We believe a young female tried to intervene and stop the offender. Was that you? Were you in the area? Did you witness this offence? You may have thought it was a fracas between a male and female.”
Man charged following chemical find on Ridgeway Avenue, Intake.
A 34-year-old man has been charged with two offences of possessing an explosive under section four of the Explosive Substances Act (1883) after chemicals were found at a property on Ridgehill Avenue on Thursday, 10 May, consistent with those used in the production of class A drugs and explosives.
The man from Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield has been remanded in custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday, 14 May, 2012.
A second man in his 60s who was arrested in relation to this incident was bailed until June pending further enquiries.
Ridgehill Avenue residents return home after chemical find prompted evacuation
Residents of Ridgehiill Avenue, Intake, Sheffied that were evacuated on Friday, 11 May, 2012, after police found chemicals at a property have all been allowed to return home.
The police cordon was lifted at around 2am on Saturday, 12 May, once emergency services were happy that all substances that were potentially dangerous were destroyed or removed. Emergency services, including the military carried out a controlled explosion on Friday, 11 May to safely dispose of any substances.

Emergency services have had to call a halt to the search taking place on Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield for the night.
Controlled explosion at an address in Sheffield
Emergency services, including the military have carried out a controlled explosion at an address on Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield.
Police had previously found chemicals at the address and the controlled explosion took place to safely dispose of these substances from the property.
Earlier this morning (Friday, 11 May) a number of neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure, as the public’s safety is paramount to officers.
Wanted man sentenced to 12 years for aggravated burglary in Doncaster
Three men were sentenced in Doncaster Crown Court for aggravated burglary and burglary, totalling 22 years in prison, but one man failed to appear and is now wanted.
Chemicals found at an address in Sheffield
Police officers have found more chemicals at an address on Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield, following a detailed follow-up search of the property and have had to evacuate a number of neighbouring properties again.
The evacuation taking place this morning (Friday, 11 May) is a precautionary measure, as public safety is of the upmost concern to officers.
Emergency services expect to be at the property until this afternoon.
Ridgeway road (main ring road) at Manor Top will also be closed for a period during the day and diversions will be in place.

Officers are dealing with an incident at an address on Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield, this afternoon. Chemicals in relation to drugs production were found and are being disposed of safely. This is not a bomb scare.
This road has been closed and a number of neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and there is no concern for public safety.
A local man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to produce class A drugs and is currently in police custody.
Total 87-years imprisonment as drug trial sentencing concludes
Sentencing is now complete following the conclusion of a major drug and money laundering trial with ten men serving a total of 87-years in prison.
All ten were convicted last Friday, 4 May, but two were sentenced today at Sheffield Crown Court.
Carl Clayton, 31, was convicted of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and today received a nine-year prison sentence.
Damien Fletcher, 28, from Dinnington, was also convicted of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and got a ten-year sentence.
