Chief Superintendent James Abdy is the District Commander for Barnsley district.
James has worked as a detective at every rank in South Yorkshire, performing a number of roles within CID, Major Crime, Intelligence, Serious and Organised Crime and Special Branch.
Prior to appointment as Head of Crime in 2016, James was Temporary District Commander at Sheffield.
James is accredited as a Strategic Firearms Commander and PIP 4, in addition to being an experienced PIP 3 SIO and Tactical Firearms Commander.
Regionally, James chairs the Yorkshire and Humber Threat Reduction Group for Modern Slavery, Human Trafficking and Organised Immigration Crime, in addition to being the chair of the Countywide Organised Crime Partnership Board.
James holds a MSc in Police Science and Management and a BSc (Hons) Business Studies.
