Appeal after man found seriously injured in Wombwell woods

Officers in Barnsley are appealing for witnesses after a 30-year-old man was found seriously injured in Wombwell woods.

The man was found with severe facial injuries in the woods, near to Woodhead Lane, sometime after 5am on Tuesday 16 April by a dog walker.

The dog walker is said to have given the man directions to Hoyland and officers are keen to speak to the person who helped the man, as he could assist with enquiries.

Police also want to speak to anyone who used the roads through the woods overnight from 7pm on Monday 15 – 5.40am the following morning. Did you see any vehicles parked nearby or see or hear a disturbance taking place?

The exact circumstances around how the man sustained his injuries are still being investigated but officers suspect he may have been assaulted.
