Welcome to the Sheffield Independent Advisory Group (IAG)

Thank you for visiting our Independent Advisory Group (IAG) web page. The IAG in Sheffield enables us to create a genuine partnership with our local and diverse communities.

This partnership is a vital part of what we do, and helps us achieve our policing priorities of protecting vulnerable people, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour and enabling fair treatment.

The information below hopefully give you an insight into the work our IAG members do and encourage you to join us.

If you're interested in joining the IAG then you can download an application form here.

Meet the Sheffield IAG Chair

Colin Harvard is a Community Development Co-ordinator at Sheffield City Council, and also chair of the Sheffield IAG.

Colin has been a community development worker in Sheffield for over 20 years has spent five years working in Page Hall, Darnall and Tinsley. His current work at Sheffield City Council focuses on cohesion across the city and the things that affect it such as poverty and social infrastructure. He has also been a governor at various schools in the city and chaired Sharrow Festival.

Colin has been a member of the Sheffield IAG for over five years because he “believes we should help our police service be the best it can be”.

Superintendent Benn Kemp outlines the content of IAG's in Sheffield:

“Sheffield IAG is an important group for the police in Sheffield and South Yorkshire as a whole as they can provide constructive feedback around the work we are delivering from a community point of view. We take the feedback raised and use it to reflect on and change the way in which we deliver policing locally.

“The group is very active and recently provided feedback on the policing of the night time economy, with their feedback directly changing elements of the plan.

“The group is made up of a broad spectrum of members from across our communities and demographics which adds real value to the discussions and learning.

“We are always open to new members and I would encourage anyone with an interest to make contact to find out more.”

Youth Independent Advisory Group

A Youth IAG is a community-led group of young people aged between 14 and 18.

It gives young people the opportunity have their say on how we can improve the quality of the policing service we deliver and to improve trust and reassurance with in our community.

We encourage youngsters from all backgrounds to get involved in our Youth IAG in Sheffield.
