A 45-year-old man is starting 11-years behind bars for a trio of street robberies involving elderly women.
Carl Auty, of no fixed address, was charged with three counts of robbery in connection to incidents reported on 22 March, 7 May (both in the Crookes area) and 24 May 2018 (Lowedges area).
The first two incidents involved women aged 73 and 76, where Auty used force to grab their handbags before making off. The third incident involved a 94-year-old woman who suffered a broken wrist after Auty shoved her from behind before making off with her shopping bag.
Today (Monday 8th October) following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Auty was found guilty of all three crimes and has been sentenced to 11-years in prison.
Detective Constable Ryan Griffiths, the investigating officer, said: “Auty’s victims have gone through a great deal of distress due to his actions.
“I hope that this sentence will go some way to helping them rebuild their confidence in the knowledge that Auty will be in custody for a substantial period.”
