Police have arrested an 31-year-old man and seized a number of weapons after a routine vehicle stop in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.
On Wednesday 14th August 2019 officers from the Burngreave Neighbourhood team stopped a vehicle on Pitsmoor Road.
Relevant checks revealed the driver did not possess a driving licence or insurance that covered him to drive the vehicle.
Officers searched the vehicle and two lock knives were located, along with five further weapons, believed to be air rifles, from various locations within the car.
The driver was arrested under section 19 firearms act, possession of a bladed article, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
An examination of the weapons is underway to determine what classification they fall under and enquiries are ongoing.
Sgt Hall from the Burngreave Neighbourhood Team stated: “We are delighted to take these weapons from the streets as well as taking another uninsured vehicle off the road in the knowledge that the local community is much safer as a result.
“We are continuing to use our proactive approach to policing in the area to tackle crime, and some of our recent results have been a testament to the team’s hard work.”
