Officers in Mexborough are encouraging members of the local community to join a new group, set up to help crime levels continue falling in the area and improve relationships within the community.
The Mexborough Neighbourhood Network will officially launch next Thursday, 31 January and anyone interested in joining or finding out more is encouraged to go along. The event will be held at Mexborough Library on John Street, from 6.30-8pm.
Chief Inspector Gwynfor Thomas has already been out and about in the area, telling people about the group and encouraging them to come along to the opening event.
He said: “We’re keen for people to come together, with their local neighbourhood policing team and councillors, to build a stronger and safer community from now and into the future.
“This is a real chance to make a difference in your local community and together we’ll be looking at how best we can reduce crime, develop a good community spirit and ultimately a safer environment to live and work in.
“Whether you’re interested in volunteering, or just want to find out more, please do come along and speak to us.”
Councillor Sean Gibbons for Mexborough Ward said "The new Neighbourhood Networks is the first one to be set up in South Yorkshire and is a fantastic opportunity for Mexborough.
"I, and fellow local Councillors, have been promoting across the town to local community groups, businesses and partners and look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday evening. We will then hit the ground running in February establishing the Neighbourhood Network with a local team of like-minded positive people who will agree the key priorities and potential solutions for our town".
