Work to tackle organised crime in Mexborough and the surrounding areas is continuing at pace with another two days of targeted action.

Today (Monday 15 July) the Serious and Violent Crime Task Force is leading a tri-district operation targeting areas of Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley.

Detective Inspector Steve Smith, who is leading the operation, said: “This work is all about ridding our communities of organised crime and making them safer places to live.

“The entire task force is involved in today’s action, which we hope will send out a clear message that this criminality will not be tolerated in any part of South Yorkshire.”

This latest action builds on work that has been taking place in Mexborough in recent weeks.

Over the two days, officers from the task force will be carrying out targeted action including conducting stop and searches and executing warrants.

DI Smith continued: “We have been getting some great results in Mexborough, along with tremendous support from the local community.

“These criminals are targeting the young and the vulnerable to do their dirty work. But the message from us is clear - they’ll get fed up before we do."
