Three firearms have been recovered during warrants in Sheffield, as extensive work to disrupt organised criminal gangs in the city continues.

Officers executed a series of raids in the Heeley and Richmond areas in the early hours of this morning (Friday 22 May).

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson said: “My Tasking Teams from Proactive CID in Sheffield were joined by the forces Tactical Support Group and the Serious Violent Crime Taskforce for this morning’s activity.

“Most significantly, officers recovered three viable firearms, this means there are three fewer dangerous weapons on the streets of Sheffield this evening.

“A 31-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remains in custody at this time.

“We also discovered an extensive cannabis set up at one of the properties and seized around 30 plants; a further warrant led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man on suspicion of drugs offences. He also remains in custody this evening.

“These are really important and significant weapon seizures, which have been found as part of proactive operations and pre-planned warrants. There’s no doubt that this work has prevented violent acts from taking place, and may well have saved lives.

“There will be no let-up in our focus on tackling organised crime groups, and I continue to ask  that communities work with us and provide information on suspicious activity or people suspected to have access to weapons.

“We need the public to work with us: provide us with information, report your concerns or suspicions, and we will act to make our communities safer.”
