Police in Sheffield are encouraging residents to check what security they have in place after burglaries in the city.
In the past four weeks there have numerous burglaries in and around the Richmond area where offender(s) have broken into houses through rear patio doors - either by breaking locks or smashing windows.
It is thought those involved are targeting jewellery items and electronic devices in particular.
T/Detective Inspector Lee Corker from Sheffield CID, said:
"I would always urge residents to be vigilant. Taking simple steps to secure your property can make life so much more difficult for burglars.
"Please keep doors and windows locked and look to get the best possible type of lock you can. Also make sure that if you have a burglar alarm, it is set.
"If you are going out then leave a light on so it appears you are at home and consider timer switches if you are going away. A house that appears occupied is far less appealing to a potential burglar than one that is empty."
Burglaries can happen in the afternoon or early evening when people are out.
T/Det Insp Corker added
"If you are at home throughout the day and see suspicious activity in or around your community please contact us."
If a crime is in progress or it is an emergency call 999.
