At 2.20pm Friday 18 May 2018, a house on Queens Drive, Old Town, was broken into and a laptop and cash stolen.

A CID led investigation led to the identification and arrest of a 29-year-old man who has since been charged in connection to the offence.

Aaron Cowles, of Tudor Way, Worsborough, was arrested on Tuesday 14 August and charged with burglary and five other theft offences.

He appeared before Barnsley Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 15 August where he was remanded to appear before Sheffield Crown Court at a date to be fixed.

On Monday 6 August, at around 4.20am, a man was the victim of a street robbery in Peel Square. Two men spoke to the victim before threatening to stab him. They then reportedly took him to a cashpoint where £200 was taken. The man was not injured. On Saturday 11 August, at around 3.20am, a further street robbery was reported, also in Peel Square.

The victim had been using a cashpoint when he was approached by a man who grabbed him, threatening him before taking his wallet, which was later dropped after reportedly being disturbed by a member of the public.

Barnsley CID identified an 18-year-old man, Dawson Allott, of no-fixed-address, who has since been charged with robbery and remanded to court.
