With the hot weather set to continue this week and in to the weekend, officers in Doncaster are reminding people to keep their property secure while they’re out in the garden and enjoying the sunshine.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Wilson, said: “Recently, we have seen an increase in the number of sneak-in burglaries in Doncaster, during which thieves have stolen car keys from properties, typically gaining access by open doors or windows before taking the car from the driveway.

“If you’re out in the garden, or heading outside to enjoy the sunshine, don’t make it easy for thieves. Keep all windows and doors locked, especially when you go to bed and even if you’re heading outside just for a few minutes, don’t give thieves any chance.

“Any security measures you have, please use them and try to ensure your locks are in good condition. We don’t want your summer to be ruined by sneak-in thieves.

“My final piece of advice is not to leave valuables on display, either in the home or in your vehicle. You can find further crime prevention advice on the front page of our website – www.southyorks.police.uk.”
