A 39-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection to conveying illicit items into prison.

As part of a week of intense action, officers from Doncaster and the prison service have been carrying out searches in HMP Doncaster, Lindholme and Moorland to stop prohibited items from entering the jails.

During a visitor search at HMP Doncaster on Monday 15 April, a 39-year-old man was arrested after reportedly being found trying to hand a prisoner a package containing a phone and tobacco.

Terance Meecham, of Patience Road, Rochdale, has since been charged with two counts of conveying prohibited items into prison. He appeared before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 16 April where he entered a guilty plea to both counts.

He has been remanded into custody to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday 7 May where he will be sentenced.
