Success in Mexborough as fight against organised crime ramps up

Another person has been arrested and charged as the Fortify team continue to target suspected criminals in Mexborough.

Yesterday, (Thursday 25 April) Kane Moffatt, 26, of York Street, Mexborough was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug, and bailed to appear at Doncaster Magistrates Court in May.

This latest charge comes as Operation Fortify – which has the aim of disrupting the activities of suspected organised crime gangs in the Mexborough - continues.

Detective Inspector Steve Smith, who leads the team carrying out the action said: “I hope that the results we’re already seeing from this targeted action are showing the people of Mexborough that we are serious about stamping out this anti-social and damaging behaviour.

“There’s a big job to be done, but we’ve made a fantastic start and we won’t stop until those who live in the neighbourhood feel safe and secure.”

A spokesperson for Doncaster Council said: “We fully support the action taking place in Mexborough, a zero tolerance approach has been adopted and we are already seeing it have an impact.

“Our community deserves better than to have organised criminals creating fear and upset.

“Our message to anyone who lives or works in Mexborough is simple; if you see something, if you know something, report it. Do your bit to make our town a better place to be.
