We're encouraging parents to stay vigilant following reports that a disturbing online game is going viral amongst children and young people.
Whilst thought to be an elaborate hoax, the ‘Momo Challenge’ has nevertheless become a concern for some parents in the country in recent days, with reports of upsetting information being circulated.
Claire Hanks, Cyber Protect Officer at South Yorkshire Police, said: "Whilst the Momo Challenge is not currently a prevalent issue in the region, it is important that parents stay vigilant and monitor what their children do online and on mobile devices.
"Remember to keep talking to your children about keeping safe online by reminding them about the importance of not speaking to strangers or giving out personal details.
"Encourage your children to talk to you or a trusted adult if they feel scared by anything they see online and remember to set parental and privacy/location settings on devices."
