Fraud Protect Officer Andy Foster attended the Doncaster Carer’s Centre today (Wednesday 27 February) to raise awareness of fraud.

The event, which was attended by around 30 carers, was also an opportunity to highlight the work SYP and partner agencies are doing in relation to Operation Signature.

Andy’s presentation included information about existing and emerging trends in fraud, information about the Op Signature initiative and advice on how to reduce the risks of becoming a victim of fraud.

Andy has already delivered ten such presentations across South Yorkshire to a range of community groups and partner agencies since starting in this role in November 2018.

Andy said: “Engagement and awareness raising is key is to community engagement.

“We have hit the ground running and interest in these presentations has taken off, we already have a further 24 ‘fraud roadshows’ booked in from now until October 2019 taking place across districts.

“In addition, two large events will be taking place at the Lifewise Centre in July and September which will also be fraud themed.”

Julie Garbutt, manager of the Doncaster Carer’s Centre said: “We have worked with SYP through Andy for a number of years. When we heard Andy was now working full time on fraud-related issues our members asked if we could ask Andy to return to raise awareness of the work the police are doing to help keep vulnerable people safe.

“Many our service users’ carers support vulnerable adults and this type of engagement is both necessary and useful to our members. The feedback from today was fantastic and we aim to take some of our members to one of the fraud awareness events taking place later this year.”
