There are many different elements of policing and our dog section is most definitely an interesting one!
Recently, a group of our four-legged friends completed an eight-week training course in forensic evidence search and victim recovery.
This means that Milo, Kip, Bobby and Charlie are now trained in techniques including locating even the most minute blood sample at a crime scene.
Throughout the course, the dogs and their trainers undertook practical training at both Lincolnshire and Derbyshire’s Fire and Rescue training centres, searching scenes of collapsed buildings, fires, collisions involving trains and sewer systems. They were also trained locally on rivers and canals, moors, woodlands, buildings and vehicles.
The dog handlers also received training in specialist areas as part of the course, including forensic science and disaster victim identification, along with advice from a vet, and search advice from SYPs police search advisors.
