Our Off Road Bike Team are upping the force’s green credentials this month as they test out a new electric, zero emissions bike.
Zero Motorcycles has lent the force one of their Zero FX ZF7.2 bikes to test out operationally until the end of May. The bike has a maximum battery capacity of 7.2KWH which translates to an urban range of around 91 miles.
PC Jamie Walker from the off-road bike team said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to trial a new bit of kit and see whether it would be viable for us in the future. So far, we have been impressed with its performance. Whilst there are operations and jobs we wouldn’t use this bike for, it is a great temporary addition to our fleet.
“The bike is extremely efficient in an urban setting, the power is literally at your finger-tips, it’s twist and go, no gears, no clutch and no fuss. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s a great little ride when you do.
“Sustainability is going to become a bigger priority going ahead and we need to embrace technology like this, these bikes are few and far between so we’re really lucky. If you see us out and about over the next few weeks, come and have a chat with our team and have a look at the bike, it is a fantastic bit of technology.”
